Farm House

Location: A Village near New Chandigarh

A sweeping 270° (or more) view—interrupted only by a lone tree across the road. That’s what this elevated site offers. It’s also why a special viewing deck was added on the first floor, positioned above the Living-Dining area below.

To the northeast lie fields that change with the seasons, bordered by a forest. It’s truly idyllic—this setting was the only and ultimate reason behind the choice of location. A typical slice of Punjab, where you hear the kooh kooh of water pumps and the calming chants from two nearby gurudwaras. The gentle sounds of rural life waking up all around create an atmosphere of complete serenity.

And yet—just a few kilometers away, as the crow flies—is a modern food court with your usual suspects: Barista, McDonald's, and more, nestled in a high-rise tower. You could easily give Gen Z directions to your home using that landmark (or, of course, Google Maps).

A short drive brings you to a village that covers your daily needs: local shops, bus stops, even atta chakkis. It's the perfect balance—away from urban pollution, yet close enough to access its conveniences.

The owner is no stranger to this kind of balance. After decades spent living just minutes from the urban pulse of California’s West Coast, he’s returned to his ancestral farmlands in Punjab.

The Home

The house itself is low-slung with a gently sloping roof. A compact first floor sits at the center, designed for the owner's son. The ground floor includes three bedroom suites, one of which is reserved for the family matriarch.

Opening off this level is a deep, southeast-facing verandah—likely to become the heart of daily living, as tradition dictates. Conveniently located around the corner is the kitchen, which serves both family and guests with ease. The verandah overlooks a private garden, another nod to traditional home layouts.

The main entrance lies on the southwest side, ensuring privacy and shielding the interiors from heat. It opens onto a front garden, which will be lushly landscaped to offer a sense of verdant, flowery calm.

To the rear is a separate servants’ block, situated next to the secondary side entrance and a generously sized parking area.

The pictures tell the rest of the story.
